January 16, 2008 — In an effort to resolve the conflict of having the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) assessments and Texas primary voting on the same day, March 4, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced on Wednesday revisions to the TAKS testing calendar.
Two major changes are being made to the original schedule:
- the TAKS exit-level social studies retest is being moved from Friday, March 7 to Monday, March 3; and
- the TAKS tests that were scheduled to be administered from March 4-6 are now scheduled for March 5-7, one day later, respectively.
No tests will be administered on the day of the primary election, Tuesday, March 4—a decision that Dr. David Anthony, superintendent of schools, said would benefit CFISD.
“The decision made by Commissioner Robert Scott to change the TAKS testing schedule to eliminate a conflict with the primary elections is truly a win-win situation for our students, our campus staff members and our voting citizen,” Anthony said. “I appreciate his willingness to consider this critical change and I appreciate the support of our request provided by Senator Dan Patrick, Rep. Rob Eissler, Rep. Patricia Harless and Rep. Corbin Van Arsdale. Truly, all stakeholders will benefit from this decision.”
