
February 11, 2008 — CFISD produced 12 regional champions at the Region 5 Swimming and Diving Meet, held last weekend at the Don Cook Natatorium in Sugar Land. The district will have 25 total entries at the UIL Class 5A Swimming & Diving Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, at the Jamail Swimming Center on the UT-Austin campus.
Langham Creek High School won the girls team competition with 83 points, while Cypress Creek High School won the boys team competition with 105.5 points.
Cy-Fair High School senior Jennifer Lamb was named the Region 5 Girls Swimmer of the Year after winning both the 200 freestyle (1:50.65) and the 500 freestyle (4:53.60). Cypress Falls High School senior Neil Caskey was named the Region 5 Boys Swimmer of the Year after winning both the 200 freestyle (1:39.29) and the 100 butterfly (49.56).
Cypress Woods High School junior Seraphina Van was also a double regional winner, winning both the 200 individual medley (2:04.57) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.79).
Other girls regional champions are Cypress Creek junior Paige Fults in the 100 butterfly; Langham Creek sophomore Morgan Sharp in the 100 freestyle (52.10) and Langham Creek’s 400 freestyle relay team of senior Stephanie Rovig, sophomore Rachel Olson, senior Ashley Hanigan and Sharp (3:31.93).
Additional boys regional champions are Cypress Creek junior Peter O’Brien in the 200 individual medley; Cypress Creek freshman Jonathan Edwards in the 100 backstroke; and Cypress Springs’ 200 freestyle relay team of junior Hunter Lane, senior Alex Carmona, senior Alec Bobst and senior Juan Jaramillo (1:27.65).

Boys
- Cy-Fair junior Hudson Rains, 1-meter diving (530.50); Cypress Creek 200 medley relay team (Edwards, O’Brien, senior Stephen Conrad and junior Cameron Hudson), 1:37.86; Cy-Fair 200 medley relay team (senior Eric Schneider, senior Hiro Matsumura, sophomore Kody Gagne and sophomore Eric Doyle), 1:38.19; Cypress Creek sophomore Patrick Noe, 200 IM (1:56.65); Jersey Village junior Max Lewis, 200 IM (1:57.14); Bobst, 50 freestyle (21.51); and O’Brien, 100 breaststroke (59.36).
Girls
- Rovig , 200 freestyle (1:50.79) and 500 freestyle (4:57.60); Sharp, 200 freestyle (1:51.90); Cy-Fair junior Kaelee Mader, 200 IM (2:07.01); Cypress Creek sophomore Michelle Williamson, 500 freestyle (4:59.97); and Hanigan, 100 backstroke (59.16).
