February 24, 2008 — The Cy-Fair High School girls basketball team will play in next weekend’s 5A Girls Basketball Championships after winning the Region III Tournament championship on Saturday night.
The Lady Bobcats (37-2 overall) defeated Cinco Ranch 49-41 in the championship to advance to state. In Friday night’s semifinal, Cy-Fair beat Dulles, 66-60.
The state tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center (1701 Red River St.) in Austin. Cy-Fair will face Region IV champion Converse Wagner (36-1) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the state semifinals. The winner will face the Desoto (38-1) vs. Garland Naaman Forest (30-6) winner in the final, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
"Our focus has been to get another chance, and fortunately we are
going back to Austin," said Cy-Fair coach Ann Roubique. "I'm proud to
be alongside this group of young ladies and I hope we represent Cy-Fair High School and the district well."
