
February 26, 2008 —CFISD sport stackers claimed 12 world records, 18 national records and 44 state records during the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) Southern Regional Sport Stacking Championships, held at the Berry Center on Feb. 16.
The following 20 students will advance to the WSSA World Championships, to be held April 5-6 in Denver, Colo.:
- Sampson Elementary School : Trevor Van Atta, Connor Byrd, Luke Nagy, Ashley Hymel, Paige Sebesta, Robert Quinilty, Ashley Butterfield, Eric Jew, Savanna Guarino, Zachary Thornton, Zachary Quinlan and Chandler Rogers.
- Hamilton Elementary School: Austin Talley and Josiah McWhorter.
- Goodson Middle School: Emily Cameron , Jessica Heath, Kaelea Butterfield, Lauren Hymel, Robert Glazier and Cade Deines.
Quinlan proved to be the top stacker in the state with the fastest combined times for his 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and Cycle stacks. Byrd, Van Atta, McWhorter and Nagy broke world records in individuals, doubles and team relays; and Sebesta and Quinlan broke national records in individuals.
“This tournament proves to be the most competitive in the U.S.,” said regional tournament director Charlotte French, Sampson P.E. teacher. “If stackers do well here, they will do well in Colorado. Each year the times are getting quicker and quicker. We look forward to another amazing tournament next year.”
