April 2, 2008 — Carrie Marz, an assistant principal at Reed Elementary School, was named the new principal at Willbern Elementary School for the 2008-2009 school year. Marz replaces Jamie Schwartzott, who will retire this June.

Marz has 24 years of experience teaching, 16 of which were spent in CFISD. She began in CFISD as a bilingual teacher at Owens Elementary School for one year, followed by 9 years as a bilingual teacher at Yeager Elementary School. Following a year as the instructional specialist at Post Elementary School, she was an assistant principal for three years at Hancock, one year at Andre ' and one year at Reed.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University, a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin University and a Doctor of Education from Texas A&M University.

“Mr. (T.A. ‘Bubba’) Willbern was the first person I met when he interviewed me for a teaching position in Cypress-Fairbanks 16 years ago,” Marz said. “I feel that I have gone full circle to serve the community of Willbern Elementary, and I look forward to continuing the record of success as I join the team at Willbern.”
