April 2, 2008 — Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and the Partners in Education (PIE) department will honor district volunteers during National Volunteer Month in April and National Volunteer Week, scheduled for April 27-May 3.
During the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, April 10, the Board will recognize CFISD’s district and state winners from the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) 2008 Education Partnerships Conference, announced in January.
CFISD had five Crystal Award winners, or top state award winners as designated by TAPE, and one Gold Award winner:
Robert Zemcik , a mentor at Fiest Elementary School, won a Crystal Award for Outstanding Senior Volunteer; Lisa Underwood, a volunteer at Emmott Elementary School, won a Crystal Award for Outstanding Adult Volunteer; the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce, a significant partner in the Bus Buddies program, won a Crystal Award for Community Partnership; Ed Station of Station & Ayers Insurance Services, who adopted Francone Elementary School, won a Crystal Award for Local Business Partnership; the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union, which placed a volunteer on every bus at Bang Elementary School during Bus Buddies, won a Crystal Award for Medium Business Partnership; and the Credit Union Acceptance Company, which adopted Emmott Elementary School and volunteered during Bus Buddies, won a Gold Award for Small Business Partnership.
The PIE department has created We Love Our Volunteers stickers, which will be circulated among CFISD schools and departments so employees can wear them throughout the month of April—specifically during National Volunteer Week.
In the 2006-2007 school year, CFISD had an excess of 10,000 volunteers register hundreds of thousands of hours using the new Virtual Volunteer software program.
“Our volunteers consist of people from all walks of life who care about what happens in our schools every day. They all have a gift to give,” said Pam Scott, PIE director. “We respect their time and we certainly hope we’re letting them know how much we appreciate them all year long, but we want to take the month of April to let them know how much they’re respected for giving us their time.”
