April 7, 2008 — Thirteen CFISD athletes qualified for the Region III Tennis Tournament, to be held April 23-24 at Deer Park High School (710 W. San Augustine St.), after placing in the top two spots at the District 17-5A meet.
The Langham Creek High School boys finished second in the team standings with nine points behind first-place Strake Jesuit. Cy-Fair was third with seven points.
The Cypress Woods High School girls placed first with 10.5 points, followed by Cy-Fair with nine and Langham Creek with 8.5.
In Boys Singles, Cypress Creek High School’s Austin Brooks placed first to qualify for regionals. Cy-Fair’s Nick McCollin placed third and Cypress Woods’ Gus Underwood placed fourth.
In Girls Singles, Cypress Woods’ Kourtney Howell placed first and Langham Creek’s Hannah Witherspoon placed second to both advance to regionals. Jersey Village High School’s Natalie Chu and Mary Chu placed third and fourth, respectively.
In Boys Doubles, Langham Creek’s team of Austin Harper and Dave Hoffman placed second behind Strake Jesuit. Cypress Falls High School’s Yoshi Murakami and Paul Phan were third.
In Girls Doubles, Cy-Fair’s tandem of Stephanie Barriero and Meredith Miller placed first and Cypress Woods’ Emily Charlton and Kristi Parrott placed second to advance to regionals. Cypress Falls’ Amanda King and Kerry O'Leary were third, while Taylor Lynch and BiBi Nguyen were fourth.
In Mixed Doubles, Cy-Fair’s Dani Curcio and Cameron Pavluk were first and Langham Creek’s Juno Ju and Olivia Lamaster were second, both advancing to regionals. Cypress Ridge’s Amy Fontenot and Jason Owsley finished third, while Cypress Falls’ Katie Budinsky and Zack Straw were fourth.
