Students place in local art contest

April 15, 2008 — Two CFISD students placed in the 2008 Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts Student Art Contest.

Ault Elementary School third-grade student Alexis Brown won third place in Division I (grades 1-5) for her artwork entitled “Reflections of Cypress.” Her art teacher is Kathy Harris.

“Alexis has always been an enthusiastic learner and a fearless experimenter as we have explored various techniques during class,” Harris said. “To have her talents rewarded beyond the classroom is truly fabulous, and I congratulate her on this accomplishment.”

Labay Middle School sixth-grade student Ashley Caballero won third place in Division II (grades 6-8) for her piece, entitled “Dizzy Plant.” Her art teacher is Lisa Gregory.

“It is so wonderful to see such a hard-working art student receive recognition in this way,” Gregory said. “Ashley Caballero is a very creative young artist. It is fun to look into her eyes as she thinks about her next assignment and to try to guess what she is seeing in her imagination.”

Both Brown and Caballero will be recognized during an awards ceremony on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts ( 6815 Cypresswood Dr. ) in Spring.
