April 28, 2008 — Cypress Creek High School tennis player Austin Brooks qualified for the UIL Tennis State Championships in 5A Boys Singles, to be held May 5-6 at the World of Tennis in Lakeway.

Brooks qualified for state by sweeping past four opponents at the Region III tennis meet last week: Fort Bend Dulles’ Joe Hill, Pearland’s Daniel Hernandez, Westside’s José Martinez and Memorial’s Jonathan Chang.

Cypress Woods High School girls singles player Kourtney Howell was a near-miss for the state meet. She won her first three regional matches before falling in the finals to Dulles’ Audrey Wooland. She then lost the playback match to Cinco Ranch’s Paige Rachel, who advances to state as the second seed from Region III.

Langham Creek High School ’s boys doubles tandem of Austin Harper and Dave Hoffman advanced to the regional quarterfinals before falling out of state contention.
