May 7, 2008 — Cypress Creek High School tennis player Austin Brooks finished his 2008 season as the state semifinalist in 5A Boys Singles at the UIL Tennis State Championships Monday in Austin .

In the quarterfinal round, Brooks defeated Brandon Underwood of Mesquite Horn in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. In the semifinal round, Brooks was eliminated by Bryan Weinetz of Laredo United, 6-3, 6-3.

“ Austin had a tremendous year. He was undefeated in high school tennis going into the state tournament,” said Dane Maegle, Cypress Creek tennis coach. “The loss in the state semis kept him from reaching his goal of being state champ, but that doesn’t minimize his great success. Austin has earned a full scholarship to Michigan State , and I know he will be a great asset there.”
