May 12, 2008 — CFISD had one gold medalist, one silver medalist and a top-six finisher at the UIL Class 5A Track and Field State Championships, held May 9-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Cypress Falls High School senior Blake Shaw won the state championship in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:52.17.

“Blake is the kind of person that you love to coach because he pushes himself every day in practice to get better,” said Cypress Falls coach Todd Ringo. “He was very relieved to finally get the gold medal after getting the silver as a sophomore and junior. You couldn’t write a better ending for a better kid.”

Jersey Village High School senior Michael Barbas was the state runner-up in the shot put, with a distance of 62-04.25.

Jersey Village senior Michael Preble placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.91.
