June 9, 2008 — Darlene Davenport, the lead counselor at Cy-Fair High School, was named new CFISD director of guidance and counseling during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Monday.
Davenport replaces Sadie Woodard, who is retiring this summer.
Davenport has 31 total years of experience in education, beginning with 13 years of teaching experience at both Kingsville ISD and North Forest ISD before taking a counseling position for two years at Smiley High School. She then joined CFISD in the 1992-1993 school year as a counselor at Cypress Falls High School, where she served 12 years before taking her current position at Cy-Fair.
Davenport received her Bachelor of Science in technology education from the University of Houston and her Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University. She holds certifications in vocational distributive education (6-12) and counselor (PK-12).
“ I feel honored to have been selected as the director of guidance and counseling,” Davenport said. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity and I will work hard to continue the tradition of excellence of all counselors in CFISD.”
