June 9, 2008 — Nine CFISD teachers were named Texas’ winning teachers in the 2008 A+ for Energy program, sponsored by British Petroleum (BP).
The A+ for Energy program was developed to recognize teachers for innovation and excellence in teaching energy conservation in the classroom. BP awards up to $5 million each year in grants and scholarships to pre-K through 12th-grade teachers who create innovative projects focused on energy.
The teachers will receive a $10,000 grant for their proposed energy-saving projects, an all-expenses paid three-day Energy Training Conference and materials for their classrooms valued at $500 and more.
CFISD winners are: Devon Savoy , Tavares Armstrong and Miranda Bussey of Cypress Ridge High School for their project titled “The Interrelation of Aqueous Solutions with Biomass in Our Communities;” Mary Patterson of Hamilton Middle School for her project titled “We have Potential!;” Carmela Simmons, Susan Williams, Katie Skow and Myrna Cabrera of Millsap Elementary for their project titled “More Power to You!;” and Jeanetta Mieth of Bang Elementary for her project titled “The Power of the Storm Goes On.”
