June 9, 2008 — Jill Smith, the director of instruction at Truitt Middle School, was named the new principal at Aragon Middle School during the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting on Monday.
Smith replaces Vicki McComas, who was named the new assistant superintendent for secondary school administration in May.
Smith has 13 years of educational experience, 11 of which have been spent in CFISD since she transferred to Thornton Middle School in 1997 to teach seventh-grade math and pre-algebra. In 2000 she became the academic achievement helping teacher at Thornton , and transferred to Langham Creek High School in 2002 as a director of instruction helping teacher. As a result of her demonstrated leadership skills she was selected for her current position at Truitt in 2003.
Smith holds a Bachelor of Science from Stephen F. Austin (SFA) University, as well as a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston and a Master of Education in educational leadership from SFA. She holds certifications in elementary self-contained (1-8), elementary mathematics (1-8) and principal (EC-12).
“What a true honor it is to be named the principal of Aragon Middle School. I am very excited about this opportunity,” Smith said. “I look forward to working with the administration, staff, students, parents and community to continue the efforts that have made Aragon an outstanding campus.”
