June 12, 2008 — Two Cy-Fair High School baseball players were drafted in the 2008 Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Player Draft, held June 5-6 in Orlando, Fla.
Cy-Fair senior outfielder Robbie Grossman was drafted in the sixth round, No. 174 overall, by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Cy-Fair senior right-handed pitcher Tommy Collier was drafted in the 29th round, No. 878 overall, by the Milwaukee Brewers.
According to MLB Draft rules, clubs can sign selected players until 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on Aug. 15, or until the player enters or returns to a four-year college on a full-time basis. A player who is drafted and does not sign with the club that selected him may be drafted again at a future year’s draft if he is eligible.
