Bleyl band earns region, area honors

June 23, 2008 — The Bleyl Middle School Symphonic Band was recently chosen by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) as a Region 27 and Area E Class 3C honor band.

The band placed first at both the region (held June 4) and area (held June 19) levels and will now compete in the state championship, to be held at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention in San Antonio July 27-30.

Region 27 is comprised of Cy-Fair, Spring Branch, Brenham and Waller school districts, while Area E is made up of school districts from San Antonio, Austin, New Braunfels, Pflugerville and Houston.

Bleyl will compete against the other 13 state qualifiers to decide the 3C state honor band. The bands will be judged by a five-member panel and ranked from first place to last.

“I feel very honored that the Bleyl Symphonic Band has been named the Region 27 and Area E Class 3C honor band, but not as honored as I feel every day to have the privilege to work with such talented and motivated students as we have in the band program at Bleyl Middle School,” said Pat Patterson, Bleyl band director.
