July 9, 2008 —Joe Miller, 2008 Cy-Fair High School graduate, won a silver medal in the Motorcycle Service Technology contest at the National SkillsUSA Championships, held June 22-28 in Kansas City, Mo.
A former student in automotive technology, Miller’s prior knowledge of motorcycle service combined with his auto tech skills led to district and state competitions in the spring and his representing Texas at the Championships.
The six-hour competition required Miller to take a written motorcycle theory test and later accurately repair problems concerning motorcycle brakes, fuel injection, electrical and suspension systems. Miller competed against schools across the nation that specialized in motorcycle technology.
For winning, Miller received scholarships from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Florida and Universal Technical Institute, as well as tools from Snap-on, gift cards from Carhartt and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle vest.
Miller, who works at Honda of Houston, will attend Blinn College in Brenham in the fall.
