
August 6, 2008 — Cy-Fair High School graduate Nneka Ogwumike led the USA Women’s U18 National Team to a championship at the FIBA Americas Championship on July 27 with a 81-37 victory over Argentina .
Ogwumike scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the championship game to cap Team USA’s 5-0 run through the tournament.
“This is what USA Basketball is all about—winning the gold,” Ogwumike said through a USA Basketball release. “To be able to win the gold is one thing, and then to do it undefeated is another great accomplishment. I think it's one of my most honored accomplishments, and I'm really excited.”
Ogwumike averaged 12.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game throughout the tournament. She will play for Stanford University in the fall.
