August 22, 2008 —The Houston office of engineering firm CH2M HILL, a five-year business partner of Holbrook Elementary School, recently donated more than $1,200 toward the purchase of playground equipment.
Following the 2007-2008 school year, Holbrook was given the opportunity to be the first site in CFISD to house a federally funded Head Start program that will be open to 3- and 4-year-olds within the school attendance zone.
Since Holbrook’s playground was not initially enclosed, the school launched a fund-raiser to help meet federal safety standards. CH2M HILL’s donation helped Holbrook reach their fund raising target.
“This partnership is a testament to the values that CH2M HILL’s employees embody of doing good work and giving back to the communities where we live and work by donating time, expertise and financial and in-kind services,” said Harold Underwood, CH2M HILL’s Houston manager. “Working with students and seeing the impact that our interactions make on their lives has been a very rewarding experience. We are proud to partner with Holbrook Elementary.”
CH2M HILL regularly participates in various activities at Holbrook, including the Partners In Education (PIE) mentoring program, an annual Christmas bike giveaway and National Engineer’s Week in February.
“One of the things I have learned since coming to Holbrook is that our business partners like CH2M HILL greatly enrich the lives of our students and our school programs,” said Holbrook principal Howard Diacon. “We are grateful for the time and effort they put into the school community partnership.”
