District swimmers qualify for state championships

February 16, 2009 — CFISD had five regional champions in seven events at the Region IV Swimming and Diving Meet, held last weekend at Woodforest Natatorium. The district will have 19 total entries at the UIL Class 5A Swimming & Diving Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28, at the Jamail Swimming Center on the UT-Austin campus.
In the women’s team rankings: Cypress Creek High School finished sixth with 30 points; Cypress Woods High School was eighth with 24; Jersey Village High School was 10th with 17; and Cy-Fair High School was 14th with 8.
Cypress Woods senior Seraphina Van was a multiple regional champion, winning both the 200 individual medley (2:03.46) and the 100 butterfly (55.09).
In the men’s team rankings: Cypress Woods finished fourth with 43 points; Cypress Creek tied for sixth with 37; Jersey Village was eighth with 34; Cy-Fair was ninth with 26; Cypress Ridge High School was 12th with 11; Langham Creek High School was 14th with 7; and Cypress Springs High School tied for 16th with 3.
Cypress Creek sophomore Jonathan Edwards was CFISD’s other two-time regional champ, winning both the 200 individual medley (1:49.79) and 100 backstroke (50.85). Cy-Fair senior Hudson Rains won the 1-meter diving (536.70), Jersey Village senior Max Lewis won the 100 butterfly (50.31) and Cypress Woods senior Shea Kenny won the 100 freestyle (46.06).

Jersey Village 200 medley relay team (seniors Ryan Allen, Billy Schoelman, Max Lewis and Tim Navarro), third place, 1:36.98; Cypress Woods junior Ross Johnson, 200 individual medley (fourth place, 1:53.95); Cypress Ridge junior Charles Graham, 50 freestyle (second place, 21.36); Cypress Woods senior Shea Kenny, 50 freestyle (third place, 21.42); Langham Creek senior Andrew Keily, 500 freestyle (third place, 4:37.13); Cy-Fair 200 freestyle relay team (junior Eric Doyle, junior Ricky Carnicle, sophomore Ryan Boe and junior Kody Gagne), fourth place, 1:28.04; Cypress Creek 400 freestyle relay team (senior Peter O’Brien, freshman Elliott Joern, sophomore Keith Murphy and sophomore Jonathan Edwards), third place, 3:12.29; and Cypress Woods 400 freestyle relay team (senior Reid Ginzel, junior Ross Johnson, senior Rickard Linder and senior Shea Kenny), fourth place, 3:12.43.
