listencfisd

April 1, 2009 — More than 300 student teams from across the state will present their creative solutions to a number of wacky yet mind-bending challenges during this weekend’s Destination ImagiNation (DI) State Tournament, to be hosted by Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cypress Woods High School (16825 Spring Cypress Road) and Spillane Middle School (17500 Jarvis Road).

Similar DI tournaments featuring students in the elementary, middle and high school levels will be happening simultaneously in the other 49 states and more than 40 countries.

Every year, DI creates challenges to develop and test student skills and talents in many areas, including scientific understanding, theatrical performance, technical prowess, improvisation and structural engineering. DI teams spent weeks perfecting their challenge solutions and presentations, which typically burst with distinctive creativity and innovation.

Top teams from the state tournament will compete along with 20,000 other students in the DI Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn., May 20-23. The competition offers an emerging view of 21st century education—one with creativity, teamwork and innovation at its core.
