May 5, 2009Becky Koop, an assistant principal at Warner Elementary School, was named the new principal at Matzke Elementary School on Tuesday.

Koop replaces Anne Odum, who will retire at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

“Her varied experiences at the elementary, middle and high school levels, her extensive training and her collaborative leadership style make Ms. Koop well-qualified to serve as principal of Matzke Elementary School,” wrote Dr. David Anthony, superintendent of schools, in a letter to Matzke parents.

Koop has spent 14 total years in education. She began as a high school teacher in San Antonio, and after three years came to CFISD as a teacher at Hancock Elementary School for three years. She taught a year each at Hamilton Middle School and Matzke, then served as instructional specialist at Emmott Elementary School for one year. She served three years as an assistant principal at Jowell Elementary School before moving to her current position at Warner, where she has been for two years.

Koop received her Bachelor of Science from UT-San Antonio and her Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University. Her certifications include All-Level Physical Education (PK-12), Elementary Self-Contained (1-8), Secondary Health Education (6-12), Second Physical Education (6-12) and Principal (EC-12).

“Becky is an advocate for her students and is willing to do whatever it takes to help them be successful,” said Warner principal Mike Maness, who also worked with Koop at Jowell.
