Cypress Falls JROTC honored as Distinguished Unit

May 27, 2009 — Cypress Falls High School Air Force Junior ROTC unit, TX-20003, has been selected as one of 393 units to receive the 2008-2009 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award. This is the second straight year that TX-20003 has received this honor. Additionally, Cypress Falls was the only AFJROTC School in the District to be awarded the Distinguished Unit Award With Merit.

The award recognizes units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations, and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the AFJROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.

Cypress Falls AFJROTC Unit TX-20003 is coordinated by Major Tim Nichols and Master Sergeant Herman Broussard. Master Sergeant Broussard was also selected as an Outstanding Instructor of the Year by Headquarters at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.

The objectives of the JROTC program are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills; promote community service; instill responsibility, character and self-discipline through character education; and to provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.

AFJROTC is located in 879 high schools across the United States and at selected schools in Europe, the Pacific and Puerto Rico. Enrollment includes more than 102,000 cadets.
