Jersey Village students accepted to service academies

listencfisd

June 2, 2009 —Two Jersey Village High School graduating seniors, Raj Kankaria and Victor Lopez, have received appointments to attend United States service academies in the summer.

The appointees completed several prerequisites before being accepted, including strong performance on the ACT or SAT, strong performance on a physical aptitude exam, passage of a medical examination and examples of strong leadership traits. They then had to obtain a Congressional or service-connected nomination and interview with an admission representative before waiting to see if they were among the few U.S. students selected.

Kankaria was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., and Lopez was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“Jersey Village High School and Cy-Fair ISD has a rich history of our graduates being appointed to the United States service academies,” said Jersey Village principal Ralph Funk. “I can think of no students more deserving of appointments than Raj Kankaria and Victor Lopez. These young men are outstanding students and have overcome great obstacles to achieve this honor. They have been student leaders for four years at JVHS. We will miss them, but the future of our country is in good hands because of students such as Raj and Victor.”
