Cy Creek boys, Cy-Fair girls win district cross country meet

November 2, 2009 — The Cypress Creek High School boys and Cy-Fair High School girls teams placed first in the District 15-5A Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 30 at Spring Creek Park in Tomball.

The top three teams and 10 individuals in the boys’ and girls’ races will advance to the Region II-5A meet, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Vandergriff Park (2801 Matlock Road) in Arlington.

In the boys’ race, Cypress Woods placed second and Cy-Fair placed third behind Cypress Creek. The runners who made up Cypress Creek’s winning effort were Richard Renteria, senior, 16:30.15; Keaton Blau, sophomore, 18:00.91; Michael Nolan, senior, 17:18.34; Sir Jean Demont, sophomore, 17:38.94; Matthew Parmley, freshman, 18:08.09; Brian Helaire, senior, 18:05.75; and Jordan Anderson, junior, 18:45.88.

Among boys’ individuals, Cypress Woods sophomore Craig Nowak won first place overall with a time of 16:18.03. Cypress Creek’s Renteria placed second and Cypress Ranch sophomore Cale Wallace finished third with a time of 16:34.56.
The remaining boys’ top 10 runners were:

  • (4) Colin Stoeber, sophomore, Cypress Woods, 16:35.34; (5) Austin Schankel, junior, Cy-Fair, 17:00.22; (6) Ryan Casey, junior, Cy-Fair, 17:16.44; (7) Nolen, Cypress Creek; (8) Jacob Guzman, sophomore, Cypress Ridge, 17:19.59; (9) Francisco Pequeño, junior, Cypress Falls, 17:34.47; and (10) Brenym Kaelin, junior, Cypress Falls, 17:36.44.

In the girls’ race, Cypress Creek placed second and Cypress Ranch placed third behind Cy-Fair. Cy-Fair’s winning runners were Faith Banker, freshman, 12:04.25; Katie Boane, freshman, 11:46.34; Haley Culpepper, freshman, 12:11.25; Lauren Fritz, freshman, 11:49.69; Karen Hunsicker, sophomore, 12:06.94; Madeline Livergood, junior, 11:56.18; and Katherine Wright, sophomore, 12:44.78.

Among girls’ individuals, Cypress Creek sophomore Leslie Schilsky won the race with a time of 11:45.12. Cy-Fair’s Boane and Fritz finished second and third, respectively.

The remaining girls’ top 10 runners were:

  • (4) Jordan Hopper, senior, Cypress Falls, 11:55.44; (5) Livergood, Cy-Fair; (6) Audrey Garcia, sophomore, Cypress Woods, 12:02.00; (7) Banker, Cy-Fair; (8) Kelly Trevino, junior, Cypress Woods, 12:04.75; (9) Haley Deakins, freshman, Cypress Creek, 12:04.91; and (10) Lauren McKenna, junior, Cypress Falls, 12:05.38.
