February 3, 2010—Larry Matysiak, CFISD Director of Secondary Music, will be recognized by the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music on Friday, Feb. 12 as its Outstanding Alumnus in Music Education for 2009.
The award will be presented during the alumni reception for the University of Houston School of Music at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention in San Antonio next week.
“I am very surprised and humbled to receive this award from the University of Houston School of Music,” Matysiak said. “I wish to thank the many teachers and mentors who have helped me through the years and the students I have had the good fortune to teach. This recognition is shared with all of them.”
The Outstanding Alumnus in Music Education award honors a Moores School of Music alumnus for distinguished accomplishments in music education. Matysiak is the fifth recipient of the award since it was instituted in 2005.
“Under his leadership our music program has continued, and improved upon, the legacy that his predecessors established,” said Dr. David Anthony, superintendent of schools. “Our students and directors are better than ever and the list of acknowledgments that they have earned prove that fact. I am very appreciative that the Moores School of Music has publicly established that Larry Matysiak is a leader in music education in the state of Texas.”
