Langham Creek ends season in regional semifinal

listencfisd

March 8, 2010 — The Langham Creek High School boys’ basketball team wrapped up its most successful season in program history on Friday night, falling 69-63 to Garland Lakeview Centennial in the Region II-5A semifinal at the Ferrell Center in Waco.

The Lobos ended their season with a 24-12 record. They were the fourth-place seed in District 15-5A and regional semifinalists—their deepest postseason run in program history.

“This season was an incredible experience as the head coach at Langham Creek,” said head coach Charles Ament. “Reaching the regional semifinals in only my third year of being a head coach has been truly a blessing. I have realized very quickly that you have to have great players, great assistant coaches and terrific community support to have a chance.

“Along the way, you need a little luck and good fortune. Our kids displayed a tremendous amount of heart throughout the year to be able to blaze a new trail for Langham Creek basketball.  They are a special group of young men that I will always remember.”

Langham Creek senior Mackey McKnight is one of the nominees for Best Boys 5A Performer in the Fourth Annual High School Sports Live Slammies Awards, presented by Ch. 55. He and Cypress Woods senior DeeMarco Richardson are the only two boys’ nominees from CFISD.

Fans may vote online through March 16. Winners will be announced during the High School Sports Live Slammies Awards show at 8 p.m. on March 24 on Ch. 55.

Cast a vote in the Slammies.
