May 7, 2010 —The CFISD Partners in Education (PIE) office recognized district and state volunteer award winners during the Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) General Meeting, held April 29 at the Berry Center.

Lynette Craig and Marilyn Meyers were honored on behalf of Cypress Bible Church for winning the Community Partnership – Academic Impact Award for their partnership with Lamkin Elementary School.

Dawn Siefert was honored on behalf of the Willbern PTO, which won the Community Partnership – Health Award for its partnership with Willbern Elementary School.

Kevin Hillendahl and Dawn Bordovsky were honored on behalf of TexasOne Community Credit Union for winning the Business Partnership – Career Education Award for its partnership with Holbrook Elementary School.

Although not represented at the general meeting, Dynegy was recognized for winning the Community Partnership – STEM Award for its partnership with Lieder Elementary School.

The state gold award winners were honored at the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) Awards Banquet on Jan. 26 in Austin.

The VIPS General Meeting also provided a platform to honor the VIPS TAG (Targeting Achievement Globally) Team, a group of global volunteers who go onto campuses designated by the school district to work alongside district helping teachers by tutoring students in science.

Now in its second year, the TAG Team features volunteers who work with students once or twice a week from September - April, making it possible for students to benefit from individualized or small-group attention that would be impossible for them to otherwise receive.
