Tennis players complete season at state

May 14, 2010 — The Cypress Woods High School mixed doubles team of seniors Gus Underwood and Kourtney Howell finished their season at the UIL Tennis State Championships in Lakeway this week.

Underwood and Howell ended the year as 5A state semifinalists on Monday following a 7-6 (4), 6-1 defeat to New Braunfels’ team of Samantha Adams and Harrison Adams—the eventual state champions.

Underwood and Howell prevailed in their quarterfinal matchup with Abilene’s Erich Bein and Madelyn Walker, winning with scores of 6-1, 7-5.

“It has been an awesome run at Cy Woods with Kourtney and Gus being on the team,” said Cypress Woods head tennis coach Tim Calhoun. “They have helped build a tradition of a strong program and a reputation that will last a long time.”
