Ogwumike named Gatorade Female HS Athlete of the Year

July 14, 2010 —Cy-Fair High School 2010 graduate Chiney Ogwumike added perhaps the most impressive piece of hardware to her extensive high school trophy collection, receiving the 2010 Gatorade Female High School Athlete of the Year award today in Los Angeles.
Ogwumike received the award at a luncheon emceed by ESPN’s Stuart Scott and attended by several professional athletes and past Gatorade award recipients, including Lisa Leslie, Kevin Love Brandi Chastain and Wes Welker (1999-00 Gatorade Oklahoma Football Player of the Year).
In 2003, the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year awards were established to identify and honor the nation's top overall male and female high school athletes from among the 12 Gatorade National Players of the Year honored during the high school athletic season. Ogwumike received the Gatorade National High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year award on March 25 at Cy-Fair High School to qualify for this elite award.
All Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year nominees will walk the ESPY red carpet and be featured as special guests during The ESPY Awards Show, which will air live tonight at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
