Elementary schools qualify for TBEC Honor Roll

September 7, 2010 — Gleason, Hamilton, Moore and Sampson elementary schools were selected last week to the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) 2010 Honor Roll. The list represents 252 schools—less than 4 percent of all public schools in Texas.

The TBEC Honor Roll is the most prestigious award for sustained academic excellence in Texas. It recognizes schools that have demonstrated three years of consistently high performance in all subjects compared to other schools serving similar student populations.

TBEC Honor Roll schools have the highest percentage of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard—commended—in every subject. All schools were expected to improve their commended performance from 2009, and every school was required to have a minimum of 20 percent of students tested performing at the commended level on all tests for 2010.

Gleason Elementary School received a score of 50 by the TBEC and had 37 percent of students performing at the commended level.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the TBEC for our students’ high academic achievement and dedication to excellence. This accomplishment can only be attributed to the hard work of our students and staff, along with continued support from our parents and school community,” said Gleason principal Melody Goffney.

Hamilton Elementary School was given a score of 67 by the TBEC and had 51 percent of students performing at the commended level.

“We are so proud to have earned the TBEC Honor Roll again this year,” said Hamilton principal Catherine Bartlett. “It is exciting to see my staff and students receive recognition for their hard work and commitment. We all love coming to school each day—whether we are 5 or 50 years old. Hamilton Elementary is a school of engagement, enthusiasm and excellence at all levels.”

Moore Elementary School received a score of 54 from the TBEC and had 39 percent of students performing at the commended level.

“It is so exciting to hear that we have received the TBEC Honor Roll recognition again this year. This accomplishment is achieved as the result of tremendous teamwork,” said Moore principal Laura Harman. “Our students are blessed to have staff members who excel in building relationships, setting high expectations and committing to doing whatever it takes to help them succeed. That, combined with the support and strong foundation that their families have given them, allows our students to be the true winners of this award.”

Sampson Elementary School scored a 67 for the TBEC and had 49 percent of students performing at the commended level.

“We are extremely proud of our Sampson students and their accomplishments. Being named to the TBEC Honor Roll is an honor made possible by the hard work and dedication of the Sampson Elementary students, staff and parents,” said Sampson principal Heather Motzny. “We celebrate this achievement with the entire Sampson community.

The TBEC 11th Annual Honor Roll gala celebration will take place on Monday, Nov. 15 at the Hilton Austin Hotel.
