3 athletes named TD Club Scholar Athlete finalists

October 27, 2010 — Three CFISD football players were selected among the 25 finalists for the Touchdown Club of Houston Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.
Cole Gunderson, Cypress Woods High School senior; Tyler Hern, Cypress Ridge High School senior; and Adam Welch, Cypress Creek High School senior; have been invited to the Touchdown Club High School Scholar-Athlete Luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the JW Marriott (5150 Westheimer Road).
Each year, the Touchdown Club of Houston honors the top scholar athletes on Houston-area high school football teams. The players are nominated by their coaches and voted on by the presidents of Rice University, Texas Southern University and the University of Houston. Twenty-five finalists are selected based on grade-point average, extra-curricular activities, citizenship and athletic prowess.
All finalists will receive at least a $500 scholarship, while the winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship to the university of his choosing. The special guest speaker for the luncheon is former Rice University and Houston Texans lineman N.D. Kalu.
