Board approves 2011-2012 instructional calendar

December 13, 2010 — The CFISD Board of Trustees approved the Calendar Committee’s recommendation for the 2011-2012 instructional calendar during its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Dec. 13.
HB1 mandates that instruction for the school year may not begin before the fourth week in August. For the 2011-2012 instructional year, the earliest start date is Aug. 22—which will serve as the first day of school.
In the fall of 2010, a district calendar committee was organized with broad-based representation, including teachers, parents, campus administrators, paraprofessionals, ancillary personnel and district-level administrators.
The committee held meetings to evaluate public input received from the district web site before arriving at a consensus for the following calendar recommendation to be presented to the Board of Trustees:
-
students begin school on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011;
-
Labor Day, Sept. 5, is a student/staff holiday;
-
the calendar has a five-day Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 21-25);
-
a two-week winter break is scheduled for students (Dec. 21 – Jan. 3);
-
a one-week spring break is scheduled for March 12-16, 2012;
-
the school year will end on May 30, 2012; and
-
Nov. 21-22, 2011, Dec. 21, 2011, Feb. 20, 2012 and May 31, 2012 are designated as inclement weather makeup days.
