CFISD enters national spotlight for efficiency

January 12, 2011 — Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has been recognized by the American School & University Top 10 Issue (December 2010) for having one of the lowest per-pupil expenditures among the 100 largest public school districts in the nation.

CFISD had the fifth-lowest per-pupil expenditure ($7,138) based on both operations and facilities debt costs for the 2008 fiscal year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Four Utah school districts were the only entities to rank ahead of CFISD in efficiency.

The district’s low expenditure per pupil was all the more impressive considering its fast growth rate. The Top 10 issue also ranked CFISD eighth in fastest enrollment growth from 1998 to 2008 among the largest 100 school districts in the nation.

This national recognition comes after CFISD was identified last fall by the Education Resource Group (ERG) as the most fiscally efficient district in Texas. CFISD was fourth by ERG for combined financial and academic ratings for effectiveness.

Additionally, CFISD was one of only 43 public school districts in Texas to receive a five-star rating from the office of Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller, for academic and financial performance, in the Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST) released in December.

“In addition to being singled out by two independent organizations for our fiscal responsibility on a statewide level, I’m delighted to see Cypress-Fairbanks ISD being recognized for doing more with less on a national scale,” said Dr. David Anthony, superintendent of schools. “Support from staff and community members has enabled the district to continue performing at the highest possible level despite a shortage of resources, thereby earning well-deserved distinction for efficiency and effectiveness.”
