January 18, 2011 —As a part of a recently negotiated electricity contract, TXU Energy awarded Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District $120,000 for completing energy efficiency measures paid through their Energy Efficiency Rebate Program.
The funds were allocated as a result of the replacement of less-efficient chillers and lighting during the 2010 renovations of existing facilities. TXU Energy is the only retail electric provider in Texas to have an Energy Efficiency Rebate Program.
TXU pays incentives at the rate of $300 per kilowatt of energy saved for chillers and $35 per retrofitted lighting fixture. Larry Kalbac, senior sales executive for TXU Energy, presented the rebate check to the district personnel during the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
“A low rate is one way to keep district costs to a minimum. Equally as important is eliminating energy inefficiencies as much as possible,” Kalbac said. “Cypress-Fairbanks ISD continues to push hard to lower consumption and reduce cost for the district. TXU Energy is proud to present CFISD with an energy efficiency rebate check for $120,000 to support the recent energy initiatives undertaken.”
In March of 2010, Cy-Fair entered into a new electricity contract with TXU that will save the district nearly $4 million in rate savings alone over a 12-month period starting in May of 2011 over the current contract rate and potentially $8 million over a 24-month period.
“I would like to commend Glen Rhoden and Claude Yoas, our directors of facilities planning and energy management, for their diligent efforts to ensure that we are able to maximize our benefits in participating in this program and being one of the most energy efficient districts in the state,” said Roy Sprague, assistant superintendent of facilities and construction.
