Students qualify for state academic meet

April 19, 2011 — Twelve CFISD individual students and three teams qualified for the UIL State Academic Meet after placing in the top three in 25 events at the Region III meet April 15-16 at Seven Lakes High School in Katy.
Cypress Woods High School finished with the fourth-highest overall point total in the region with 114, while Cypress Creek High School placed sixth with 84 points. Other schools earning points were Cypress Ridge (54), Cypress Falls (15), Cypress Springs (15) and Cypress Ranch (8) high schools.
The following students qualified for state, which is scheduled for May 5-7 at the University of Texas:

“This team has worked so much this year, with so many of the students being self-motivated,” said Crystal Link, Cypress Ridge speech and debate coach, regarding her team’s first-place award in the Speech category. “I am so proud that their hard work and effort has been rewarded and can’t wait to see them compete in Austin.”

Additionally, the cast and crew of the Cypress Creek High School one-act play, The Farnsworth Invention, will advance to the state meet after placing in the top two at the Region III One-Act Play competition on April 16 at San Jacinto College.
The Farnsworth Invention is directed by Marilyn Miller, Alexander Garza and Marilyn Ocker. Cast members are Justin Salinas, Morgyn Utzman, Brianna Ripkowski, Nathan Crooks, Allan Lawrence, Jon Cozart, Cesar Escalante, Brice Phillips, Brandon Blake, Natalie Tischler, Nat Margolis, Nick Hall, Aaron Lloyd, Lauren Harsany and Alex Martinez. Crew members are Erin Jensen, Lizzi Cook, Lindsey Vrana, Hayley Morlock and Helen Hoang. Alternates are Ian Alexander and Will Haralson.
