Oct. 20, 2011— The Cy-Fair High School marching band placed third and the Cypress Falls High School band placed 10th in the finals of the Lone Star Preview Marching Competition at The Woodlands High School on Saturday.

The competition featured 27 of the best bands from around the state.

Judges gave Cy-Fair a 77.5 on a scale of 100—ranking only behind San Antonio Johnson and Pearland Dawson.

“We were extremely pleased with the students' efforts on Saturday, and the judges at the competition expressed their positive impression of the group,” said Cy-Fair band director Mark Veenstra. “This judging panel was the most expert group that we will perform for this season, as they come from all over the country and represent the best knowledge of the marching band activity in the country today. We placed third out of 27 fine bands, and all 27 are typically 1st Division UIL winners.”

Cypress Falls earned a third-place ranking in the music caption following its run in the finals, according to band director Shawn McAnear.

“The Cypress Falls band had two really strong performances on Saturday,” said McAnear. “The musical run in the finals was the best of the year. We are very proud of the students and are looking forward to completing our season at UIL Saturday afternoon.”

All 10 CFISD marching bands will compete at the Region 27 UIL Marching Contest at the Berry Center on Saturday, Oct. 22.
