Swenke’s Jules Girdner wins ES Spelling Bee

Feb. 9, 2012—Swenke Elementary School fourth-grade student Jules Girdner won first place by correctly spelling the word “sarcasm” in the annual districtwide Elementary Spelling Bee, held at the Berry Center on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Gleason Elementary School fifth-grade student Alinee Nguyen was the district’s runner-up. Both Girdner and Nguyen will compete in the Houston PBS Regional Spelling Bee, scheduled for Saturday, March 31 at the University of Houston.
