Cy Falls debate student qualifies for Tournament of Champions
Feb. 23, 2012—Cypress Falls senior Brian Hodge qualified for the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky, scheduled for April 28-30.
This elite tournament hosts the top debaters in the country. Hodge will be one of a handful of students from a public school competing against some of the most prestigious private schools in the country.
Additionally, Hodge was selected as one of the top 10 debaters in the country to compete at the 2012 California Invitational, hosted by the University of California, Berkeley at Skyline High School in Oakland Feb. 18-20. He placed third overall out of a field of more than 200.
Nine total Cypress Falls debaters competed in the 39th annual forensics tournament:
Nikunj Soni, Hodge and Hassan Khan competed in Lincoln-Douglas Debate – Open; Victoria Semaski and Roshni Chandwani competed in Lincoln-Douglas Debate – JV; Drake Jacob and Cori Womack competed in Public Forum; Jasreen Johal competed in Original Oratory and Humorous Interpretation; and Cassondra Richard competed in Dramatic Interpretation and Original Oratory.
“I am proud of the accomplishments of this group,” said Cypress Falls debate coach Debbie Waddell. “They are always willing to step up, speak out and demonstrate their dedication to this activity.”
