Cy Ranch Key Club

Students in the Cypress Ranch High School Key Club work together to sort perishable food items at Cypress Assistance Ministries last month for the annual Souper Bowl of Caring, benefiting needy families in the Cypress area.

Feb. 24, 2012— The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) of Houston will present the Cypress Ranch High School Key Club with an honorable mention award in the Youth in Philanthropy Award Program during a reception on Monday night at the Hilton Americas Hotel.

The $1,000 award will be evenly split between the Key Club and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Cypress Ranch Key Club adviser Jennifer Hydes and senior Megan Iselin will speak at the reception.

“I’m thrilled that our Key Club is being recognized for their good work in our community, particularly in their fundraising efforts benefitting so many local charities,” said Jennifer Hydes, Cypress Ranch Key Club adviser.

The Key Club has been involved in several recent service efforts:

  • joining the fight against hunger with the “Art for the Hungry” event, collecting more than 1,000 nonperishable food items to create a sculpture of a Washington landmark at Willowbrook Mall. All food items used will be given to Northwest Assistance Ministries;

  • bagging groceries at H-E-B and sorting food items at Cypress Assistance Ministries for the “Souper Bowl of Caring,” benefiting needy families in the Cypress area; and

  • participating in “Operation: Overwatch,” collecting magazines, toiletries and other items to box up and send to overseas troops for Boxing Day.
