April 5, 2012—Students from Spillane Middle School raised $5,738 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the St. Jude Math-a-Thon.
The St. Jude Math-a-Thon is a free, education- based program for grades K-8 that benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while helping students improve their math skills. The program is designed to complement existing curriculums while teaching students the importance of helping others. To participate, students ask family and friends for pledges to solve math problems in the Math-a-Thon Funbook.
“St. Jude is a research institution that develops and shares protocols and expertise to treat deadly childhood diseases,” said Spillane math instructional specialist Christina Hoover, coordinator of the event. “By pledging donations to students participating in Math-a-Thon, Spillane supported the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving children across the country and around the world. We are proud of our students and honored to be a part of such a giving community.”
The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the world’s premier centers for research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the top children’s cancer hospital in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.
