April 20, 2012—CFISD 2011-2012 volunteers were recognized during the Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) Appreciation Luncheon, underwritten by PBK, on Friday at the Berry Center.

Thousands of district volunteers filled the arena floor to see musical and artistic performances by students and staff. The Langham Creek High School JROTC color guard presented the colors as Cypress Ranch High School student Lindsey Wurdeman performed The National Anthem.

Pam Scott, director of Partners in Education, welcomed the crowd and introduced the volunteer, community and business partnership district and state award winners.

Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools, and Bob Covey, Board of Trustees president, voiced their appreciation for the volunteers.

“It’s awe-inspiring to be able to look across the arena and see how many people we have actively supporting our schools,” Henry said. “The CFISD students and staff genuinely appreciate your time and sacrifice to make a profound impact on someone else’s life.”

Covey was joined at the event by fellow Board of Trustees members Tom Jackson and Christine Hartley.

“Your value to the school district is much more comprehensive than any dollar amount,” Covey said. “You change lives for the better, and your loyalty to our students is written on their faces.”

Many sponsors contributed to the successful event:

  • the platinum sponsor was H-E-B Cypress Market;

  • the gold sponsors were Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union, GameTime by Total Recreation Products, Rock Creek, Spring Creek Barbeque and Towne Lake;

  • the silver sponsors were Calvary Community Church, Copperfield Church, First Metropolitan Church and Sysco;

  • the bronze sponsors were the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) and Saint Aidan’s Episcopal Church; and

  • John and Robbie Fox helped sponsor the event as Friends of Cy-Fair ISD, while Mark McShaffry donated gift certificates to The Backyard Grill.
