May 7, 2012—Nurses from CFISD are being recognized throughout the week as part of School Nurse Awareness Week, and specifically on Wednesday, May 9 – designated as National School Nurse Day by the National Association of School Nurses.
National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting.
CFISD employs 84 school nurses, seven licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and 10 clinic assistants.
Each May, the state of Texas designates a week to honor school nurses for the important role they play in the lives of young Texans. Gov. Rick Perry proclaimed the week of May 7-11 as School Nurse Awareness Week.
“The school nurses in this district are professional, energetic and compassionate in caring for students and staff,” said Jan Jones, director of health services. “Our CFISD registered nurses address health problems that might otherwise be overlooked, helping to make a positive difference in attendance and academic performance. They are dedicated to providing the best health care to every student and staff member, and I am so proud of these nurses who make a difference in the life of a child every day.”
