May 9, 2012—Four CFISD schools were recognized nationally in the 2012 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings.

The publication paired with American Institutes for Research (AIR) to evaluate nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college and other factors.

U.S. News and AIR used a three-step process to determine the Best High Schools:

  • whether each school’s students were performing better than statistically expected for the average student in the state;

  • whether the school’s least-advantaged students were performing better than average for similar students in the state; and

  • which schools produced the best college-level achievement for the highest percentages of their students, by computing a “college readiness index” based on the school’s Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) participation rate.

Cypress Woods High School ranked No. 85 in the state and No. 993 in the nation to earn a silver medal. The school had a 32.2 college readiness score, a 3.4 rating in average math proficiency and a 3.5 rating in average reading proficiency.

Langham Creek High School ranked No. 111 in the state and No. 1,394 in the nation to earn a silver medal. The school received a 24.8 college readiness score, a 3.3 rating in average math proficiency and a 3.4 rating in average reading proficiency.

Cy-Fair High School ranked No. 141 in the state and No. 1,722 in the nation to earn a silver medal. The school received a 19.8 college readiness score, a 3.3 rating in average math proficiency and a 3.4 rating in average reading proficiency.

Cypress Ridge High School was also recognized nationally with a bronze medal. The campus earned a 15.1 college readiness score, a 3.2 rating in average math proficiency and a 3.3 rating in average reading proficiency.
