TXU awards CFISD energy efficiency rebate

May 14, 2012—TXU Energy awarded Cypress-Fairbanks ISD $260,000 for completing energy efficiency measures, which are paid through their Energy Efficiency Rebate Program, during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Monday.
The funds are a result of the energy efficient design of Salyards Middle School and the replacement of less-efficient chillers and lighting at various campuses, which are slated for the summer 2012 renovation projects.
TXU Energy is the only retail electric provider in Texas to have an Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. TXU pays incentives at the rate of $300.00 per kilowatt of energy saved for chillers and $35.00 per retrofitted lighting fixture up to the maximum available rebate amount.
In December 2011, CFISD successfully negotiated a rate below $0.05 per Kwh, which, at the time, was the lowest rate achieved in the Houston area for electricity service by a school district and resulting in an additional savings of $1 million in electricity costs for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
“We are very excited to continue our partnership with TXU as our electrical service provider,” said Roy Sprague, assistant superintendent for facilities and construction. “Our energy management team has done an excellent job in maximizing our participation in various rebate programs so that we can reinvest these funds back into new initiatives to increase our energy efficiency. This results in lower energy costs so that these dollars can be utilized in the classroom to benefit our students and instructional staff. CFISD has received the highest amount of rebates from TXU than any other school district in the state of Texas.”
