May 24, 2012David Hughes, the associate principal at Cypress Ranch High School, was named the new principal at Langham Creek High School on Thursday. Hughes replaces Dr. Cheryl Johns, who announced her retirement last month.

Hughes has served as the associate principal at Cypress Ranch since it opened in 2008. Previously, he was an assistant principal at Cy-Fair High School from 2003-2008, and has served as the summer school principal for Cy-Fair (2007) and Cypress Ranch (2009) high schools.

He began his teaching career abroad at Norton Priory School in Runcorn, England, before spending two years at Spring Woods High School in Spring Branch ISD as a U.S. history teacher and coach. Hughes joined CFISD in 1984 as a teacher and coach at Langham Creek High School, where he served eight years before serving in the same capacity at Cypress Falls High School (1992-2003).

Hughes received a Bachelor of Education from Chester College at Liverpool University in the United Kingdom and his Master of Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University.

“I began my career in CFISD as a teacher and coach at Langham Creek High School in 1984 and am thrilled to return as its new principal,” Hughes said. “I am excited for the opportunity and look forward to building relationships with the students, staff and community. One of my goals will be to continue to build on an already excellent reputation.”
