Students win national technology awards

August 1, 2012—Two CFISD students earned awards at the Technology Student Association National Competition, June 21-25 in Nashville.

Langham Creek High School senior Taylor Frith-Brown placed eighth in the nation in the Technical Sketching competition.

Frith-Brown made it to the finals at nationals by placing in the top twelve on the written exam. She then completed the practical exam, drawing an exploded isometric view, assembled isometric view and working drawing in a 90-minute time frame.

“I am so proud of Taylor and what she has accomplished. Taylor is a third-year architecture student, but Technical Sketching is an engineering-based event. Taylor did an amazing job and I could not ask for a better performance. Taylor is an amazing role model for her fellow club members and proves that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything,” said Langham Creek teacher and TSA sponsor Jennifer O’Brian.

Cypress Woods High School junior Alie Derkowski placed 10th in the nation in the CAD 2D Architecture competition.

“Placing in the top 10 in the nation in Architecture is no easy feat. We are so proud of Alie and can not wait to see what she will do next year in class and competition,” said Cypress Woods teacher and TSA sponsor David Berry. “Alie is a hard worker and I see a bright future for her in the field of architecture. She is dedicated and very active in our TSA Club, enjoys new challenges and is always willing to help other students in the classroom when they are stuck on a problem.”
