May 14, 2026—Cypress Creek High School held its 11th induction ceremony for its Wall of Honor on May 11. This year, the Wall of Honor committee selected Chris Cartwright, Class of 1983, Michael Lattin, class of 1987, and Jack Tannous, class of 1998, as the three inductees.

May 12, 2026—The Greater Houston Football Coaches Association (GHFCA) named the Rowe Middle School football coaches as its Junior High Staff of the Year at its annual awards ceremony on May 3.

May 12, 2026—The UIL state track meet will have plenty of CFISD representation this Friday and Saturday. Seventeen individuals qualified as well as the 4x100 relay teams from both Cypress Springs and Cypress Falls high schools.

May 11, 2026—Duryea Elementary School held a dedication ceremony for its new SPARK park on April 28 complete with songs from the play “Bugs” performed by its second graders, a routine from the school’s Blue Bows cheer and dance team and a ribbon cutting at the new playground.

May 11, 2026— When Dorene Velazquez graduated from Cy-Fair High School alongside her peers in 1985, she succumbed to the inevitable event of hanging up her letterman jacket, framing her diploma and accepting that the bittersweet memories of her alma mater had become just that: memories. Forty years later, while on a trip with family to Southern Germany, Velazquez visited a local antique shop only to be met with a unique relic from a familiar past—a Cy-Fair High School band jacket.

May 8, 2026—Cypress Creek High School senior Kimberly Lam was recently named a 2026 National Merit Scholar. As part of the award, she will receive a National Merit Scholarship to go towards her college education.

May 8, 2026—CFISD recently announced three new Model Teachers for Elementary Science. Kathy Williams, second grade teacher at Lowery Elementary School, Nicole Connor, fifth grade teacher at Yeager Elementary School and Kasey Negron, fifth grade teacher at Bane Elementary School, were all selected to take part in the program.

May 6, 2026—Jennifer Soileau, assistant principal at McFee Elementary School, was named the principal at Walker Elementary School on May 6. Soileau replaces Kim Dameron, who will retire in June.
