The Cy-Fair ISD Police Department Canine Unit was established in 2018 and consists of four k-9s and their handlers. The Department currently has three narcotic detection dogs and one explosive detection dog.
The K-9 Officers and their handlers spend their workdays conducting searches on campus, assisting patrol, and putting on educational presentations and demonstrations for the students and staff of CFSID.

OFFICER GRIFFIN and K-9 KOA
Officer Griffin has been an officer for six years. He has prior experience with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, then joined the Cypress Fairbanks ISD Police Department. Officer Griffin has experience in patrol and special operations, including serving warrants with SWAT and working special events throughout Harris County. Officer Griffin has been a canine handler with the Cypress Fairbanks ISD Police Department since August 2020.K-9 Koa has been with Cypress Fairbanks ISD Police Department since February 2023. She is an English Springer Spaniel born in Poland and brought to the United States by Pacesetter K9. Koa is an Explosive Odor Detection (EOD) canine.
K-9 Koa lives at home with Officer Griffin and his family, including her best friend, K-9 Scout, who retired in August 2022 after her tremendous four-year service to the Cypress Fairbanks ISD and surrounding communities.
K-9 Koa has a high drive for her work and loves every minute of it. She loves to play fetch and is eager to serve the community to ensure everyone's safety.

OFFICER HINDMAN and K-9 JUMPER:
Officer Hindman began his career in 1992, as a Deputy Constable in Corpus Christ, Texas. He has previously worked in drug interdiction, corrections, and patrol operations with various agencies. Officer Hindman came to Houston in 2001 as an Agent with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
Officer Hindman started his career with the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Police Department in May of 2015. Officer Hindman has worked Patrol on night shift, Campus Operations at Cy Woods HS, and is now on his third year as a Canine Handler with his partner K-9 Jumper.
K-9 Jumper is a Dutch Shepherd and was born on January 8, 2016, in Poland. Like the other K-9’s in the unit Jumper was brought to the United States by Pacesetter K-9 and has been trained in Narcotics Detection and the tracking of persons.

OFFICER MAYO and K-9 ASTRA
Officer Mayo has 27 years of law enforcement experience. During his career Officer Mayo worked for the Houston Police Department and spent time working Canine, Scuba Dive Team, Community Services, Gang Division, Hot Spot, and Patrol. While working as a Canine handler for HPD Officer Mayo worked several high profile assignments including Super Bowls in Houston and Minneapolis. Officer Mayo began working for the Cy-Fair ISD Police Department in 2018 as a Canine Handler.
Canine Astra is a female Belgian Malinois who was born on August 1, 2016, in Poland. Astra was brought to the United States in March of 2018 by Pacesetter K-9. K-9 Astra is trained in the detection of narcotics and firearms.
Astra lives at home with Officer Mayo and his family including her best friend Retired Canine Drummel who retired in May of 2018 along with Officer Mayo from the Houston Police Department.
Astra loves to come to work where she gets to conduct detection work and interact with the employees and students of CFISD.

OFFICER SPILMAN and K-9 DIEGO
Officer Spilman has been a Police Officer since 2003 and has served at the Harris County Constable Pct 4, Katy ISD, and now at Cy-Fair ISD since July 2017.
Canine Diego is a male Belgium Malinois who was born on January 10, 2017, in Poland. Canine Diego was brought to the United States by Pacesetter K-9 and is a narcotic detection canine.
Canine Diego loves coming to work, finding narcotics, and playing with his Kong toy.
