RLA RESOURCES

  • At Moore Elementary, we believe that a strong literacy foundation in reading and writing is the building block of all learning and is the gateway to academic and life success for all students.

Reading comprises of five essential pillars: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

One way to support your reader at home is by using these phonics cards. Practicing them will help your reader gain a better understanding of how letters make unique sounds that can work together to form words. Please print them front/back to create flash cards.

Each card should be practiced in the following pattern: letter, word, sound.

    EXAMPLE:

    “B, bat, /b/”

    “D, dog, /d/”

    “F, fish, /f/”

For more information or if you have questions, please contact your child’s reading/language arts teacher or Mrs. Willard, our RLA Instructional Specialist, at katrina.willard@cfisd.net.

By being proficient in these phonemes, your child will be able to piece together sounds to decode longer or unknown words.
